DATURA

DATURA addresses people who are co-infected with TB and HIV. It is a research project that aims to assess whether an intensified initial TB treatment could increase survival in hospitalised, HIV-infected adults and adolescents compared to the standard TB treatment regime.

HerpeZ in both these trials is coordination and implementation of the biological investigations. Training and capacity building of lab teams in the different sites to conduct testing and monitoring of results to ensure successful implementation of the trial. Though the participation of Dr John Tembo who serves as Co-Lead on the Biological investigations work package.

EMPIRICAL Project

Empirical treatment against cytomegalovirus and tuberculosis in severe pneumonia in HIV-infected infants: a randomized controlled clinical trial
EMPIRICAL is an EDCTP-funded research project that will evaluate whether empirical treatment against cytomegalovirus and tuberculosis improves survival of HIV-infected infants with severe pneumonia.

HerpeZ is co-ordinating the two Zambian sites on this trial as well as coordination and implementation of the biological investigations. Training and capacity building of lab teams in the different sites to conduct testing and monitoring of results to ensure successful implementation of the trial.
